One Clean Block
Purpose: to engage the community to help look after local areas they frequent. It all adds up, and doing this together, the difference will be noticeable and a win for the environment and all of us.
Around our local areas there are so many spots where trash collects and where storm drains are full of trash or debris. As organic debris washes into the waterways it causes algae growth and reduces habitat for wildlife. Litter that washes through the storm drains breaks down, polluting waterways and potentially adding chemicals and microplastics.
In an ideal world, community services would take care of the storm drain debris, and people wouldn’t litter, but we thought if individuals helped out by keeping areas they frequent clear of litter and debris (footpaths and storm drains) we could make our local area look better, and it would also be healthier.
Here is a list of areas people have already signed up to care for in our Greater Severna Park area:
- Evergreen Road between Hollyberry and Cedar – both sides
- Hatton Road to Severna Park Elementary School
- Holland Road storm drain at Evergreen Pool
- Evergreen front of Severn School
- Circle at Arundel Beach Road to Royal Farms
- Leelyn Rd from Berrywood South to 648
- Leelyn Rd to Chick-Fil-A and Goskas
- B&A trail Community Center to Cattail Creek
- Pond at Mezzanotte
