SHOPTOBERFEST – A great place to make friends and meet Neighbors
It was great to put faces to current Good Neighbors and meet new ones at Shoptoberfest 2021 in Park Plaza! Rain during set up threatened the event, but great weather prevailed and was perfect for martial arts demonstrations and costume contests.
In addition to Severna Park Neighbors, we connected with lots of folks from Pasadena, Millersville and Odenton, encouraging them to participate in our S(o)uper Bowl, no matter how small their neighborhood. We can help anyone in Anne Arundel County connect with a local food pantry. We reminded people they can also use the GNG website resources to re-home things they no longer need.
After a kicking demo by Kwon’s Tae Kwon Do students, we wondered where the kicked boards end up. Since there wasn’t a plan for them except possibly a fire pit, we offered to re-home them. We packed them up and offered them to local Buy Nothing communities. Four families took them for Girl Scout and Boy Scout projects, painting projects and shelves in a Little Library.
It’s great to keep your eyes open for opportunities find homes for things. People may not realize what they have is useful to others, and often don’t have the time, but they are happy for the connection or the help.
Shoptoberfest kicked off our busy season, and we’re already looking forward to next year’s event! Check out the GNG Calendar to see what’s next and how you can get involved.
