Good Neighbors - Nairobi
Purpose: helping increase access to education and employment and helping improve the health and well-being of people in Nairobi through biannual shipments of donated items, and expansion of resources and networks.
In 2023, Good Neighbors Group hired its first part-time employee, Brian Githehu. Brian works remotely from just outside Nairobi, Kenya. His passion for helping his community led to development of Good Neighbors Group – Nairobi. Twice per year GNG ships school supplies, art supplies, children’s and adult clothes and shoes, items for babies and more from Maryland to Kenya.
Brian distributes these items to local families, schools and maternity programs. In the first shipment, a case of solar lights was included, to help reduce reliance on kerosene for light. The most recent shipment included locally donated boric acid fuel cells for phone and flashlight recharging, as well as three computers for a resource center which will build employment opportunities. GNG continues to research and connect to nonprofits in the Nairobi area to help them make a bigger social and environmental impact.
